Africa Quantum Consortium Event Spotlight
Epitaxy of Quantum Heterostructures & Physics Devices | Dr. Prosper Ngabonziza (Louisiana State University)
ASP Online Seminar — Epitaxy of Quantum Heterostructures & Physics Devices
📅 Tuesday, August 12, 2025
🕐 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM UTC
🎤 Speaker: Prof. Prosper Ngabonziza (Louisiana State University)
Africa cannot lead in quantum science if it sits out on the materials revolution powering it. This seminar is a masterclass on the frontier where quantum materials, clean energy tech, and high-performance electronics intersect.
Prof. Prosper Ngabonziza—one of Africa’s leading voices in complex oxide research—will take us inside:
Transparent conducting oxides for next-gen electronic devices.
Ionic conducting oxides for clean energy applications.
4d correlated electron systems and the exotic quantum phenomena they unleash.
The metallic delafossite PdCoO₂ — an ultraconductive, anisotropic marvel.
These aren’t lab curiosities—they are the building blocks for Africa’s foothold in the global quantum economy. Prof. Ngabonziza’s work combines atomic-level precision with device-focused vision, showing how fundamental physics turns into deployable technology.
He’ll also share why the African Light Source (AfLS) is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to anchor world-class science infrastructure on African soil—and why its success depends on our collective will.
🌍 Africa ↔ Diaspora — In this spirit, at IEEE 2025, AQC will host a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session to connect Africa with its global diaspora. This conversation is the first step toward sustained collaboration—through shared research, student exchanges, and digital communities—building a truly connected and inclusive quantum future. See schedule here.
Why This Matters
If Africa wants more than a seat in the quantum age, we must master both the physics and the fabrication. Epitaxy—the art of building materials atom-by-atom—is how nations move from consumers to creators. This session is a masterclass and a rally point—aligning scientists, engineers, and policymakers around concrete tech missions. Listen. Learn. Act.
🔗 Register. Show up. Bring others.
This is not another academic webinar—it’s a strategic briefing for anyone who believes Africa should be designing and owning the quantum future.
The Africa Quantum Consortium is the driving force uniting Africa’s top minds to collaborate, innovate, and propel quantum technology forward across the continent.
